Ukraine-Russia: NATO considers standing army in east

Stoltenberg: "The war has already triggered long-term security consequences".

The war between Russia and Ukraine is reshaping the geopolitical balance in Europe and the rest of the world. Just look at how in recent years the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has shifted its military center of gravity towards the East. The decision will be formalized in the summit scheduled in Madrid on June 29 and 30.

"We are studying a plan to deploy a permanent military force on our eastern borders to counter any aggression from Russia. However it turns out, the war in Ukraine has already triggered long-term security consequences. NATO has to adapt to the new situation and that is exactly what we are doing", said the Secretary of the Atlantic Alliance, Jens Stoltenberg, in an interview with the British newspaper "The Telegraph".

In any case, the limit imposed by the United States remains: no direct involvement of the Atlantic Alliance in the conflict. So yes to the supply of additional armaments and economic support to Ukraine, but absolute attention to the fact that the conflict does not expand beyond the Ukrainian borders.
