United Kingdom: response to EU complaint to rescue Flybe

Today discussion in the House of Commons on the operation, suspected state aid

The British government's response came following a complaint filed to the European Union by several companies including British Airways and Irish Air Lingus regarding the rescue operation of the local air carrier Flybe. The maneuver was contested as a disguised form of state aid. The postponement of the payment of passenger taxes granted to Flybe in the context of an injection of liquidity given to the low-cost company on the verge of bankruptcy was also the subject of controversy. The Minister of Relations with Parliament, Jacob Rees-Mogg, replied that today the House of Commons will discuss the details of the operation and the "use of public resources".
