Hong Kong: a new wave of airport protests

The CAAC: Cathay Pacific Airways must suspend who have joined -VIDEO

The protests in Hong Kong continue to be more intense and by June 24 they had reached the city's airport with the adhesion of the flight personnel and the cancellation of over 200 connections (see AVIONEWS).

Today August 9th a new wave of unauthorized demonstrations at the airport began  and activists plan to stay at the airport for the whole week-end. The Chinese Civil Aviation Administration (CAAC) today launched an alert to the Cathay Pacific Airways company and asked the carrier to suspend employees who have undertaken and supported illegal protests. "The crews involved in the uprising pose a threat to aviation safety in mainland China", it said in a statement.

City leader Carrie Liam said: "The Hong Kong protests could hit the economy like a tsunami. We have had two months of political disputes. The recession is galloping fast and the economic recovery will take a long time".
