Syrian aircraft approach British base in Cyprus
Akrotiri, Cyprus - The episode occured last Monday, but London waited a few days to communicate it
The Ministry for Defence of the United Kingdom confirmed that on Monday 2 September 2013 some Syrian aircraft violated the airspace of Cyprus, and consequently two Eurofighter Typhoons of the Royal Air Force at Akrotiri base, less than 160 km from the Syrian shores, were scrambled. The two Syrian aircraft were probably Sukhoi Su-24s, which are able to fly from Damascus to Cyprus in about 15 minutes....
