ScanEagle drone-aircraft flies in counter-piracy operations
Amsterdam, Netherlands - Ocean Shield mission continues
The Royal Netherlands Navy's HNLMS Rotterdam is currently cooperating with NATO in Somalia in counter-piracy operations. In addition to usual helicopter deployments (the ship is equipped with two Eurocopter AS-532 Cougar), a remote-controlled drone-aircraft have been used for the first time in that scenario. The ScanEagle, with a wingspan of more than 3m, has a flight endurance of around 16 hours....
