Sikorsky S-92A fails test on main gearbox
Washington, USA - During the trials to get Faa certification
The Sikorsky S-92A helicopter, same type of the one that crashed in Canada in March killing 17 people (see AVIONEWS), failed a crucial test within the certification process concerning its main gearbox. The test consisted in draining oil from the main rotor gearbox to simulate an oil loss, to see in how much time it would have broken down.
